Playground Sandboxes in Almaty

We manufacture sandboxes for courtyards and playgrounds: with a lid to protect the sand, with a shade canopy, with benches and small tables around the perimeter.

What we manufacture

With a lid

Protects the sand from rain and animals; the lid folds out into benches.

With a canopy

Shade protection — the sandbox stays usable during hot hours.

With benches

Wide sides and seating around the perimeter.

With a small table

A play surface for molds and sandcastles.

Themed

Styled as a boat, a car, or a little house.

Why a lid or canopy matters

An open sandbox gets dirty fast: rain, leaves, animals. A lid solves that completely — the sand stays dry and clean, and the lid itself often folds out into benches along the sides.

A canopy does a different job — it shields children from direct sun. In Almaty’s summer climate that matters a great deal: an open, uncovered sandbox sits empty around midday. It’s best to combine both, or place a canopied sandbox next to a pergola.

Construction and drainage

Sides are built from moisture-resistant plywood, larch or WPC with a wide top edge — comfortable to sit on and to rest molds on. Every corner is rounded, fasteners are recessed.

Drainage underneath is mandatory: geotextile and a layer of crushed stone, otherwise the sand turns to mud after rain and takes a long time to dry. It’s the detail most often skipped in a DIY installation.

Frequently asked questions

Is drainage needed under a sandbox?
Yes, it’s mandatory. Geotextile and a drainage layer of crushed stone go under the sand — otherwise water pools after rain and the sand stays wet for a long time.
What sand should be used?
Washed quarry or river sand with no clay content. The layer is usually 20–30 cm. It’s recommended to replace or top up the sand once a season.
Which is better — a lid or a canopy?
They solve different problems: a lid protects the sand when the sandbox isn’t in use, a canopy protects children from the sun. For Almaty, combining both — or placing a canopied sandbox next to a pergola — works best.
